The Palestinian Agricultural Relief Society brought together West Bank farmers to the city of Nablus for a food exhibition entitled “From the Best of My Country and the Tastes of My Natal Land.”  The purpose of the event is to promote the role of agriculture in Palestinian economic growth and to empower farmers. UN Concerned at Muslim-Buddhist Clashes in Myanmar

The U.N. General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution late Monday welcoming positive changes in Myanmar but expressing serious concern at an upsurge of sectarian violence between Muslims and Buddhists in strife-torn Rakhine state. The resolution adopted by the 193-member world body urges government action to improve the situation of the Rohingya Muslim minority “and to protect all their human rights, including their right to a nationality.” There is widespread resentment of the Rohingya community, whom many in Myanmar regard as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh out to steal their land. News of defection comes as activists say 20 people, including eight children, have been killed by shelling in north of country Syrian General Abdelaziz Jassim al-Shalal, head of the military police, making a statement about his defection. Shelling in Syria’s Raqqa kills 20, at least 8 children

BEIRUT (Reuters) — Government shelling in the northern Syrian province of Raqqa killed about 20 people, at least 8 of them children, a video posted by activists on Wednesday showed. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights published a video showing rows of the blood-stained bodies laid out on blankets. The sound of crying relatives could be heard in the background. The shelling hit the province’s al-Qahtania village, but it was unclear when the attack happened. Egypt’s Mursi to address parliament on Saturday

CAIRO (Reuters) — Egypt’s President Mohamed Mursi will on Saturday address the upper house of parliament which now holds full legislative powers following the adoption of a new constitution, the council’s speaker said. Under the new charter, legislative powers temporarily held by Mursi have now been transferred to the Islamist-dominated upper house of parliament, until a new lower house is elected in a vote expected in about two months. In 1947, during a meeting at the United Nations (UN) to discuss creating a plan to partition Palestine between Jews and Arabs, Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Dushinsku declared to the entire assembly that Zionism – an ideological political movement created early in the last century which asserts the existence of a Jewish state – did not represent the followers of Judaism, therefore he disagreed with creating a nation-state for themselves. EL-ARISH, Egypt (Ma’an) – Qatari cardiac surgeons have been granted permission to enter the Gaza Strip where they are scheduled to carry out open-heart surgeries for children, an official at the crossing said Tuesday. The delegation of 10 cardiac surgeons arrived in Cairo Tuesday and was scheduled to cross Wednesday via Rafah crossing.
