CAIRO (Ma’an) — Suspected militants blew up a gas pipeline in the northern Sinai Peninsula late Friday, Egyptian army sources said.
The sources told Ma’an that an explosive devise was blown up underneath a pipeline in the village of al-Tawil south of el-Arish.
The pipeline supplies natural gas to an industrial zone in central Sinai, the sources said.
It was the second time in a week that the pipeline was hit with explosives.
Military officials suspected that the attack was revenge for the army’s killing of Shadi al-Munei, a leader in the Ansar Beit al-Maqdis militant group.
