The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Wednesday arrested a Palestinian youth near the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil for allegedly possessing a knife.
An IOF spokeswoman claimed in a statement that a group of border guards arrested a Palestinian after he approached them carrying a knife.
She pointed out that the detainee is a 25-year-old resident of al-Khalil and that he was taken for interrogation without being shot or injured.
Dozens of military checkpoints, roadblocks and gates are erected throughout the Old City of al-Khalil and in the vicinity of the Ibrahimi Mosque. Palestinian citizens in the area are subjected to humiliating searches and unjustified arrests.
Similar checkpoints are deployed in different areas of the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem under the pretext of preventing attacks by Palestinian youths against Israeli targets.
