A number of Palestinian young men were kidnapped by Israeli policemen from Jaffa city last night as they marched in the funeral procession of a Palestinian youth killed by the Israeli police at daybreak Saturday.
Thousands took part in the funeral of 22-year-old Mahdi Jamal al-Saadi, shot and killed by the Israeli police in Jaffa, in territories occupied in 1948 (Green Line).
Clashes burst out during the funeral procession after the Israeli police came down heavily on the mourners.
At least eight Palestinian young men were kidnapped by the Israeli cops from the area overnight Saturday and at daybreak Sunday.
Al-Saadi’s family accused the Israeli police of cold-bloodedly executing their son though he posed no threat to them according to on-the-spot testimonies.
The family demanded that a probe be immediately opened into the crime and that the Israeli policeman be held to account.
On Saturday, the Israeli police claimed that they chased down two Palestinians riding two motorcycles in Jaffa and opened fire at them on allegations that they fired gunshots at Israeli cops. A young man—al-Saadi—was pronounced dead in the shootout, sparking tension across the city.
