Israeli forces detain 13 Palestinians, seize weapons in West Bank raids

11 Palestinians arrested weapons seized

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — Israeli forces detained at least 11 Palestinians and seized weapons during multiple predawn raids across the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, according to the Israeli army, with locals in Nabi Salih saying that a violent detention raid there sparked clashes in which at least two locals were physically assaulted by Israeli soldiers.

Israeli forces stormed the village of Nabi Salih in central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah and raided a number of houses, including the home of Mahmoud al-Tamimi who was assaulted by Israeli forces and hospitalized for his injuries, according to local sources.
Naji al-Tamimi also reported that Israeli soldiers assaulted members of his family after they broke into his house and detained his 21-year-old son Anan.
Israeli soldiers also raided the house of Salih Ayoub in the village and detained his 26-year-old son Omar.
The aggressive raid sparked clashes in the village, during which Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters and rubber-coated steel bullets at local youth and toward houses, locals said.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the two detentions in Nabi Salih and told Ma’an they were looking into reports of the clashes.
Elsewhere in the Ramallah district, the Israeli army said one Palestinian was detained in the village of Deir Abu Meshaal, one in the village of Shuqba, and one Palestinian was detained in the village of Dura al-Qara, who was allegedly “an activist for the Hamas movement.”
Meanwhile, Israeli border police raided the town of al-Eizariya in the central Jerusalem district, searched a house, and purportedly found weapons there — a Carl Gustav rifle and some ammunition, and Israeli police spokesperson said.
Israeli media said that Israeli forces also detained two Palestinians, from Yatta in the southern Hebron district, for alleged involvement with the weapons found in al-Eizariya.
The Israeli army also said it uncovered weapons during a military raid in the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron. An army spokesperson told Ma’an that a pistol and weapons parts were found in two warehouses that were uncovered in the city.
She said that the overnight raid in Hebron came in response to an alleged vehicular attack on Tuesday, in which Israeli forces shot and killed the driver, 29-year-old Rafat Hirbawi. Immediately following the incident, Israeli forces raided his home in Hebron as well.
During the subsequent overnight right into the city, one Palestinian was detained, according to the Israeli army.
The army spokesperson also said that a Palestinian was detained in the town of Beit Ummar north of Hebron city, and in the village of Marah Rabah in the neighboring Bethlehem district, another unidentified Palestinian was detained.
In the northern occupied West Bank, two Palestinians were detained in the town of Salem east of Nablus city, and one Palestinian was detained in the village of Anza in the Jenin district.
Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
According to a joint report released by a number of Palestinian rights groups on Sunday, Israeli forces detained a total of 388 Palestinians, including 70 minors and 13 women, across the occupied Palestinian territory during the month of June.
