Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering closing the Jerusalem bureau of the Qatar-based Arabic media network Al-Jazeera, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Tuesday.
Netanyahu discussed with officials of the Foreign Ministry, Shin Bet security service, Government Press Office and the war ministry on Monday preliminary steps for shutting the bureau down, according to Yedioth Ahronoth.
Israel’s war minister Avigdor Lieberman slammed the Doha-based Al-Jazeera news network as an “incitement machine” which peddles propaganda “in the style of Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia.”
“Al-Jazeera is not media, it’s not journalism. It’s an incitement machine. It’s pure propaganda, of the worst variety, in the style of Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia,” Lieberman claimed.
Al-Jazeera, one of the largest news organizations in the world, has long been criticized by Israel for its pro-Palestine editorial line.
Following the recent diplomatic spat between Qatar and three Gulf Arab countries, fanatic Israeli hordes rallied outside Al-Jazeera offices in Occupied Jerusalem calling for shutting down the offices similar to the three Gulf Arab countries.
