General coordinator of the Miles of Smiles convoys, Issam Yousuf, has called for launching a new Freedom Flotilla in support of the besieged in the Gaza Strip.
In a press statement issued a couple of days ago on the 7th anniversary of the Israeli attack on the 1st Freedom Flotilla which resulted in killing 9 Turkish nationals, Yousuf asked the Egyptian authorities to accelerate opening the Rafah crossing to help alleviate the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
Yousuf said that the anniversary is a motive for further work in Turkey and the rest of the world to support more than two million Palestinians experiencing harsh economic and humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
He paid tribute to the Turkish president and the families of those killed in the Marmara ship during the Freedom Flotilla raid.
Yousuf asked the international community to intervene and pressure Israel to open all commercial crossings, enter all goods into Gaza, and allow the construction of a seaport connecting Gaza with the world.
He praised the Turkish charity association IHH for launching a massive march on 31st May in solidarity with Jerusalem and Gaza.
He renewed the call for supporting Palestine and its people and increasing support for Gaza in the holy month of Ramadan.
