Gaza children hospital sounds distress signals over medicine crisis

Abdul Aziz al-Rantisi Children's Hospital

The Palestinian Health Ministry in the blockaded Gaza Strip warned of an acute shortage in medicines at Abdul Aziz al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital.

Speaking during a press conference at the hospital, Dr. Mohamed Abu Suleiman said the health status of a number of hospitalized children has taken a turn for the worse due to the power crisis and shortage in medicines and chemical doses.

According to Dr. Abu Suleiman, the health of 48 children undergoing weekly kidney dialysis is deteriorating as the hospital has run out of medicines to treat seizures and hormone disturbances.

Several cases diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, neurological disorders, tumors, and renal failure have also gone untreated at home and in the hospital, he added.

Abu Suleiman further warned that several patients held in the intensive care unit are on the verge of death due to the power crisis.

The medics at the hospital sounded distress signals and urged all concerned institutions to provide chemical therapy and emergency treatment for children so as to save their lives.
