IOA issues new administrative detention orders

30 administr detention

The Israeli Occupation Authorities (IOA) issued 30 administrative detention orders against a number of Palestinian detainees, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Tuesday.

30 Palestinian detainees received different administrative prison terms since March 13, ranging between two to six months, according to the PPS.

The PPS noted that that 18 of the orders were issued for the first time against newly arrested prisoners, while 12 orders were issued to extend administrative detention sentences for Palestinians already held by Israel without charge or trial.

Administrative detention is the imprisonment of Palestinians without charge or trial and on the basis of secret evidence for up to six month periods, indefinitely renewable by Israeli military courts.

Israel’s policy of administrative detention has been widely condemned by the international community.

Palestinian detainees have continuously resorted to open-ended hunger strikes as a way to protest their administrative detention and to demand an end to this policy, which violates the international law.
