The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas has hailed the UN Security Council’s anti-settlement resolution which was passed on Friday by 14 votes and only the United States abstaining.
“We value the position of states that voted in favor of the resolution and welcome this significant transformation in international positions that support the Palestinian people’s rights,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a press release on Saturday.
“We call for more resolutions backing the Palestinian people’s just cause,” he added, stressing the need for tangible steps towards ending the Israeli occupation.
The UN Security Council had on Friday voted in favor of a resolution demanding an immediate halt to the Israeli occupation’s settlement activities in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.
