Joe Catron of Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network spoke on Thursday, 20 October at an evening event hosted by the Workers World Party at the Solidarity Center in New York City about the case of Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, the imprisoned Lebanese Arab struggler for Palestine held in French prisons for 32 years.
This talk came among two protests held in New York City as part of the international week of action to free Georges Abdallah, on 14 October and 21 October; the week of action also marks the first anniversary of Samidoun’s regular weekly protest in New York City for Palestinian political prisoners and the Palestinian struggle for freedom.
In the talk, he emphasizes the role of the United States in having a lengthy sentence imposed on Abdallah in French courts, as well as the role of Hillary Clinton and previously, Ronald Reagan, in blocking his release; Abdallah has been eligible for parole since 1999, which has been approved even at the highest levels of the French judiciary before being blocked by political officials – including current prime minister Manuel Valls – at the highest levels of the French state.
