Syrische dissidenten hebben vandaag in Turkije formeel de oprichting van een nationale raad aangekondigd. De raad heeft als doel het regime van president Bashar Assad omver te werpen. Regering Israël stemt in met opnieuw onderhandelen

De regering van Israël is vandaag akkoord gegaan met de oproep van het kwartet om opnieuw over vrede met de Palestijnen te gaan onderhandelen. Dat liet het bureau van premier Benjamin Netanyahu weten. Het kwartet (Verenigde Staten, Rusland, Europese Unie en Verenigde Naties) stelde ruim een week geleden voor dat Israël en de Palestijnen binnen vier weken bijeen zouden komen om een agenda voor vredesbesprekingen op te stellen. Egypt Supports Palestinian Rejection of Negotiations as Settlements Continue

CAIRO, October 2, 2011 (WAFA) – The Egyptian government Sunday affirmed its support of the Palestinian position that rejects resuming negotiations with Israel in light of the continuation of settlement construction, said Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr. The statement came during a meeting at the ministry’s headquarters in Cairo, of a delegation comprising PLO Executive Committee Member, Saeb Erekat, the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, and Palestinian ambassador to Cairo, Barakat Al-Farra.
