They wish to be heard by the constituent assembly elected on October 23, in the wake of the revolution that ousted the regime of former President Ben Ali’s from the government.

Too long marginalized and excluded, they intend to act now to upgrade their heritage and culture as part of Tunisian society, according to the Secretary General of the Tunisian Association of Amazigh Culture, Jalloul Ghaki.

The Tunisian Association for Amazigh Culture (ATCA) has also filed its claims for recognition of the Amazigh culture to the Constituent Assembly and to the government being formed, according to Ghaki who added that half (50%) Tunisians are of Berber origin (Chleuh).

The association plans to conduct a census of the Amazigh in 2012, according to Ghaki who adds that the objective of the association is to save the heritage, tifinegh alphabet and to fight against denial
